The goals and structures of an argument and an explanation are two separate types of communication.
A claim or stance is presented along with arguments or supporting data in an argument. The purpose of an argument is to persuade the audience or reader to agree with the viewpoint put forward. A thesis statement, supporting details, and a conclusion are common components of arguments.
In contrast, an explanation is a type of communication in which a person imparts knowledge regarding a subject, notion, or concept. An explanation's main objective is to make the listener or reader more aware of the subject at hand. Explanations often try to clarify or educate the audience rather than to persuade or convince them.
